Rule # 1: No Pissing, No Moaning!

One of the things I often get complimented on is
my relationship with my daughter.

I get compliments such as: I wish I had a father like you. I value this feedback more than any of the Olympic medalists, world record holders I have ever trained.

People often asked me, “What is special do you think that you did? She is so self-reliant and determined”  One of the things I did was to teach taught her rule number 1 at very young age: no pissing, no moaning. From age two, she could recite it. If she complained about something, she was asked to remind me of rule # 1. Within 8 weeks of learning it, she was clear… for life, that she was responsible for her actions, and her attitude. In one of my favorite books, The Compassionate Samurai, by Brian Klemmer, reinforced constantly this principle.

However, that rule is not known/applied enough. I am utterly amazed at the amount of pissing and moaning on social media.  Here is a typical moronic comment:

“What about genetics? It is always the big guys who have the big arms”

Fuck that!

Whether you ask Paul Carter, Boyer Coe, Nick Mitchell, Charles Glass, or anyone who was skinny as a kid, and THEN grew to have big arms,  they will agree with this statement: the biggest difference between the skinny ones and the large ones is not drugs or genetics, it is four things:

1

The guys with the big arms had skinny arms as kids, and did not like it.

That is why they got to have big arms. So they did something about. No pissing, no moaning. Just work. They all admired guys with big arms. Arnold wanted to be Reg Park, I wanted to take over Tarzan’s job when he retired. No pissing, no moaning; get the job done.

Getting big arms would allow me to replace Tarzan when he retired

The guys with the big arms are the guys who do the reps that the skinny guys are not willing to push through.

Skinny guys do 8 reps with 15 R.M. loads. Big guys do 8 reps with 7 R.M. loads… No pissing, no moaning. Today is today. Tomorrow may never come. I have seen many trainees in my life. The two biggest set of arms I have seen in the human species were on Lee Priest and Robbie Robinson. Guess what they had in common : work capacity.

To be fair, they are the guys who did the most work in the shortest amount of time, with impressive loads. Same thing with Larry Scott. No pissing, no moaning, find out how Larry Scott would get in the mood for training. It is a gem. And no, I will not give you the link, take responsability and find it yourself. Then, you will appreciate its worth. The growth mindset is primordial.

The big arms guy figure out what works for them.

Preferred methodology has a lot to do with neurotransmitter profile, I took my arms from an ultra dweeby 9 3/4 inches to 19 5/8 on using LOTS of heavy doubles and singles. Took me 19 years to do so. Pretty much along the lines of what Brooks Kubik, Roger Estep and Doug Hepburn liked for them.  No pissing, no moaning, experiment until you get your groove. Maybe your brachialis is way too weak and small

Am I saying it is the best way to get big arms for everybody ? No. High reps works great for some people. Not for myself. I only advocate that you need to figure out what is best for you. No pissing, no moaning.

For every inch of arm size you want, you have to gain 12 to 15 pounds of solid bodyweight

So you need to squat, deadlift, row, press with decent loads too. Not convinced ? Read about Jachère Arm Training. Can’t get your arms to grow ? Maybe you need to do power snatches. That is one of many unorthodox ways you can increase your biceps size and strength. All my friends with big arms are strong on everything ; guys like like Christian Thibaudeau and Juan Carlos Simo.

As my friend and great healer, Mathieu Boulé says  « the one who accomplishes nothing, bitches the most »

No pissing, no moaning.

Get it done!
